Groundbreakers Wild

  • Birch Syrup on fresh crepe

  • Wild Salad

  • Discovering fungus

Groundbreakers Wild had a successful start in the fall of 2017 with Muheim Elementary students venturing along several local forest trails to collect and create edible treats such as wild cranberry syrup and rosehip tea. Spring 2018 got ‘wild’ with Muheim and Telkwa Elementary classes getting out on multiple trips to make stinging nettle pesto pasta, cattail salad, spruce tip tea, and much more. Fall 2018 included Walnut Park Elementary students in this growing program to explore birch tree forests and the pleasure of eating birch syrup crepes and  create rose hip and cranberry jams.

We are grateful for the support of the Kassandra Trust for this new initiative and are seeking financial support to continue working with schools to provide unique Place Based Learning opportunities through hands-on food and outdoor education experiences.
